July 29, at 1412 hundred hours Dale County Voad was preparing to
dispatch out to monitor road conditions during the afternoon storms. While
monitoring we discovered down power lines over Skipperville Co. Rd. 68 in
front of our office residence. The scene consisted of two down power
poles as you can see in the field of one of the photographs taken. There
was also low-hanging lines over the highway. Dale Co. Voad unit 1401,
(Eddie George), unit 1403, (Terry Gillen), and unit 1404, (Leroy Miller) were
first on scene, and notified Pea River Power Company of the troubled
location.
Preformed duties on this particular scene was– cautioning traffic of the
low-hanging power line over the west bound lane, and directing traffic
through the east bound lane. This kept traffic clear of the danger that
existed from the low laying lines until the Pea River REA crews arrived to
correct the problems.
When Pea River service trucks arrived– Dale County Voad continued to
direct traffic.. Some traffic was held up while crews pulled lines back in the
air over the roadway to restore service to local residents.
Timeline for Dale County Voad was– on scene at 14:15 and was completed
and back in service at 17:30 .
Pea River Electric crews were very thankful for our skilled assistance in
directing traffic. This helped restore service to local residents a lot faster.
